By now, anyone who is serious about their health is already using the super fruits of the Amazon rain forest. Lets take a look at why you will soon be changing to the Maqui Berry Superfruit.
Why are superfruits so popular?
As soon as a child is old enough to understand that he is not permanent in this world and someday will die, he thinks about ways to lengthen his life. At the turn of the 20th century, life expectancy in the United States was approximately 50 years. In 2010, it has increased to about 80. We picked up an additional 30 years. What caused this? Well, exponential increases in medical science surely contributed. We can replace damaged or dying organs as easy as changing the engine in your car; maybe easier when you consider a heart transplant only takes a few hours. We can cure nearly every disease on record. Keeping people alive that would have died a couple of decades ago has become routine. But who wants to live in a hospital bed?
What are antioxidants?
The human body burns the food we eat to create energy. Burning is just another word for oxidation. As the body turns the fuel into energy, it creates a by-product called free radicals. These free radicals are eventually flushed from the body. Unfortunately they negatively affect other cells while they until that time. It is widely accepted that this cell destruction causes aging. So its not a huge leap of faith to think that neutralizing these free radicals will retard the aging process. Once that was established, the search for antioxidants was on.
Where can you find antioxidants?
Antioxidants are present in fruits. There are large trace amounts in strawberries and blueberries. These are readily available in the US. Remember your mother saying ‘eat your fruit and vegetables’. She could never tell you exactly why, but man has noticed he feels better over time when he eats a wide range of foods. If a little is good, more is better.
Recent superfruit discoveries in the Amazon Rain Forest
One of the first superfruits was discovered in South East Asia. It is known as the mangosteen and was high in antioxidants. As its health benefits surfaced, another berry was found called the Goji berry. Research showed that the Goji had a higher content of antioxidants than the mangosteen, so health professionals started recommending them as a dietary supplement. A system for measuring antioxidants was created. It is known as ORAC. It stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity. It is the method of measuring antioxidant capacities in biological samples. Simply put, the higher the ORAC value, the more antioxidants are present. Remember the phrase more is better? Eating a fruit with the highest ORAC value is the best way to retard the aging process.
Several years ago, some surfers visiting Brazil were introduced to the Acai berry. The local surfers ate it to increase their energy levels. They took the berries back to the US to have them analyzed. They were surprised to find that the Acai berry had many times the ORAC value of the common blueberry and far eclipsed the mangosteen and goji berry. Understanding this significance spawned a whole new business. Today millions of people eat or drink acai berry supplements daily.
The Maqui Berry Revolution
More recently, another berry discovery has come to light, the Maqui Berry. This little gem was discovered in Patagonia, the area of the rainforest near Chili. The local indigenous Mapuche Indians have been eating the Maqui for centuries. ORAC testing revealed that it contains more than double the content of antioxidants of the famous Acai berry. In fact, it has the highest ORAC values of all fruits. If more is better, the Maqui is an important discovery in the search for the fountain of youth. Many confirmed Acai berry users are switching to the Maqui to hyper-charge their anti-aging regimen.
Users of the Maqui report increased energy. This causes their metabolism rates to increase which effectively burns more fuel. The result is weight loss. The increase in energy simply makes you feel better too. A more efficiently working body leads to disposing of waste products more effectively. The result is clearer skin. And don’t forget, the increased levels of antioxidants neutralize the free radicals better which slow the aging process.
